Cullinan Diamond Mine
Surface tour
Enjoy a tour of the Premier Mine, opened in 1902, where the world’s biggest diamond (3106 carats) was discovered in 1905, and a 507 carats diamond in September 2009! Premier Mine has produced 255 gem diamonds of over 100 carats, and nearly a quarter of the world‟s gem diamonds of 400 carats and over! This is also the only outlet in the world where you can buy the Cullinan Star Cut diamond – a unique 66 facet cut. Each stone is laser inscribed – your assurance of the stone‟s uniqueness.
On the surface tour visitors will see the big hole, the shaft and the diamond room where a selection of uncut diamonds and replicas of world-famous diamonds are displayed. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes as a fair amount of walking is involved.
We also give an hour’s leisure time to stroll along Oak Avenue and to have a refreshment at the historical Cullinan Hotel or Maker’s Village (see below).
PLEASE NOTE: All visitors must wear closed shoes, an indemnity form must be completed with a copy of your passport required and they have to through a breathalyzer test before
entering the mine’s premises.
The Maker’s Village in Oak Avenue Cullinan, is a renowned hub of creativity, craftsmanship, and community. Here you will find exceptional work of people who create items not easily found in traditional stores.
The Makers Village helps the elderly and the youth from Cullinan and Rayton with skills training and workshops. It can best be described as a modern-day community centre. Workshops that have been presented include woodwork, silver jewellery, a sewing and design studio, leather, blacksmith, ceramic and kitchen and hospitality training.
Adventure Zone Cullinan offers all sorts of fun-filled adventures for individuals and groups, including a spectacular ziplining experience, abseiling and rap jumping, as well as quad biking. Explore the unique Muningi Gorge as you zipline across it or abseil down its cliff wall, or discover South African wildlife by biking through the game farm just outside Cullinan.
