Welgevonden Game Reserve
A mere 3 hours’ drive from Pretoria / Johannesburg, the 36 000 Hectares of raw African bush is home to the Big Five.
Rietvlei Nature Reserve
Situated 18 km from the centre of Pretoria and 38 km from the OR Tambo International Airport, the 3 800 Hectares of endangered Bankenveld grassland includes open plains and undulating hills with some 1 600 head of game, including cheetah, rhino, buffalo, blesbuck and black wildebeest.
Dinokeng Game Reserve
The only residential Game Reserve hosting the big five animals in Gauteng Province. Available on a half-day tour from Gauteng with overnight packages available from the many Lodges in the Park.
Bush Babies Monkey Sanctuary
Situated in one of the many kloofs (gorges) of the Magaliesberg Mountain range, visitors walk through indigenous forests with waterfalls and mountain springs on elevated wooden walkways. This wild forest is home to Lemurs, Bush Babies and Spider, Squirrel, Capuchin and Vervet Monkeys.
The Elephant Sanctuary
Once the home to abundant herds of elephant, the Magaliesberg Mountains are home to this special sanctuary in the heart of the beautiful African Bushveld.
Ann Van Dyk Cheetah Centre
The De Wildt Cheetah and Wildlife Centre is renowned for its breeding success of rare and endangered species. The tour coincides with feeding time, so you’ll be able to observe these animals feeding in a natural, but controlled, habitat.
Rhino & Lion Park
Situated in The Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, this 1 200-hectare park is home to over 700 head of game including white rhino, lion, buffalo, cheetah, wild dog, hippo and crocodile.
Pilanesberg National Park
If you don’t have the time for a Kruger Park Tour this is your best alternative – only about two hours from Pretoria / Johannesburg. Home to the Big Five (lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino and elephant) and more than 365 bird species.
